Winter in Jiuzhai Valley is described as a “Winter Fairyland”. Although this may sound like something you would read in a child’s fairy tale book, when you see it you will agree. Many of the waterfalls are frozen still while the snow covered trees present the perfect contrast of colour against the brightly coloured lakes. Temperatures do drop to as low as -5ºC but this is the driest time of the year. The mountains are a barron looking brown colour where the conifers are not and when they are not under snow. Even though temperatures can be quite low when there are clear blue skies it can be quite warm in the sunshine.
